Pentecost Sunday
The Lord and Giver of Life
May 23, 2021
As We Gather
This Sunday is the Festival of Pentecost, and we are celebrating what we confess when we say these words of the Nicene Creed: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.” In the same way that the Spirit breathed new life into the dry bones of Ezekiel’s vison, the Spirit breathes new life into the spiritually dead, and brings them together as the Church of Jesus Christ. The Lord and giver of life, through the good news of Jesus Christ, brings a spiritual resurrection in this life and a physical resurrection in the life to come. “I will put My Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.” Ezekiel 37:14

Bible Sponsorship for 8th Grade Graduates
We would like to send our 8th graders off to high school with a new study Bible. Would you like to help by sponsoring one of these Bibles and sending an encouraging card to one of them?
All of our students receive Bibles in the 2nd grade. But many of them are in sorry shape by the end of 8th grade. This is not a bad thing! It shows they have been used! We want to bless our 8th graders as they graduate with a new study Bible that contains to encourage them to continue exploring and growing in God’s Word. Here is more information about the Bible https://www.zondervan.com/9780310941767/niv-quest-study-bible-for-teens-hardcover/
If you are interested, what should you do?
- Please contact the church office or Kevin Mathison (kevin@stjohnslutheran.net). If there is a specific 8th grader that you would like to sponsor, let us know. Otherwise we will pick one for you and share with you his or her name.
- Write a letter or card for the student to go with the Bible. This can be a graduation card, or a simple note card.
- Get the card or letter to the church office. You can drop it off or mail it. Please get them to us by June 1.
- Make your donation. The Bibles are $25. Please mark your donation “8th grade Bibles”
When they graduate, the students will receive the Bible you have gifted along with your card or letter.
If you have any questions, please ask Pastor Mike or Kevin Mathison.
Serving our Community through the Mission Farm
We are heading into the time of year when timely harvesting in our mission farm is critical. Not only does the harvest provide much needed fresh produce to the Napa Food Bank, but it also leads to ongoing fruitfulness of the plants.
In order to adequately harvest the anticipated bounty, we need more servants! This is an excellent way to serve the needy in our community while enjoying fellowship with other Mission Farm servants. If you are interested in serving, just show up on any Saturday morning. The Farm team will direct you to what needs done that day, as well provide information on other times to serve.
Communion Assistants Needed…
As more people are returning to in-person worship we are in need of additional people to assist with distributing Communion. If you are able to serve in this way, please contact Pastor Mark (pastormark@stjohnslutheran.net) for more information and training.
COMING SOON! THE WORLD PREMIERE of our BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MOVIE!!!
Please tune in online for our performances on June 4th-6th at 7pm Pacific and June 6th at 2pm Pacific. The performances will be streamed. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.
