Strength in our Weakness
“A Ministry of Reconciliation”
July 18, 2021
Worship this Sunday is in the Faith Chapel
It’s time for the annual stripping and waxing of the sanctuary floor, so we will be worshiping in the Faith Chapel this Sunday. The service will be at 9:30 AM and will be streamed.
For those who will be worshiping online: Please note that the livestream will NOT have the words of the liturgy, the readings and the songs and hymns overlayed on the image. This is because we will not have access to the full tech booth in the sanctuary while streaming from the Faith Chapel. But we encourage you to download the order of service from this page: https://stjohnslutheran.net/live-streaming-worship-at-st-johns/
As We Gather
God strengthens us in our weakness by reconciling us to Himself. This is what the Gospel is all about. This is the point of the story of salvation in Scripture. “God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them (2 Corinthians 5:19).” But not only has God given us the grace of reconciliation through the cross, He has also called us as His people to be ambassadors of reconciliation, bringing the good news of Jesus to all people. What does it mean that we as a Church are called to a ministry of reconciliation?

Wednesday Night Worship July 21st
“Ask the Lord of the Harvest”
Join us for Wednesday Night Worship next week. In Matthew 9:35-10:4, Jesus calls his disciples to pray for workers for the spiritual harvest. Then He provides one answer to this prayer by calling and sending them into the harvest field. What does it mean to be sent into the harvest?

Pastor Mark’s Retirement on August 15 – RSVP’s requested
We will be celebrating Pastor Mark’s ministry and his retirement during worship on August 15. The service will be followed by a meal in the parish hall. Please call the church office to RSVP for the meal. 707.255.0119. Thank you!
Calling all Singers…
For August 15th, I would like to invite anyone who is interested in celebrating Pastor Mark through song to join the choir in singing John Rutter’s “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”. I can pass out music after Sunday services, and I could also leave some copies in the church office. I would encourage those interested to utilize practice parts that are on YouTube. I will hold two rehearsals prior to singing in the August 15th service – August 8th after church, and August 15th prior to the service. All are welcome! Erin Blackwood

Right Now Media Recommendation
How to Read Hosea https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Training/Post/View/211127
The Bible can be hard to interpret. It’s lengthy, packed full of characters, and sometimes difficult to tie into daily life. Hosea, a collection of preaching and poetry, unpacks humanity’s rebellious nature, and God’s loving and forgiving character through the imagery of an adulterous wife and a faithful husband. In this post, The Bible Project breaks down the book into digestible pieces so we can understand and apply its truths.
