Hebrews: Jesus is Better
“A Better High Priest”
October 2, 2022

As We Gather
Melchizedek is one of most mysterious characters in the Bible. He makes a brief appearance in Genesis 14 where, as the king and priest of Salem, he receives a tithe from Abram. But he is more than that. He becomes the symbol and icon for a priesthood distinct from the priesthood that followed Aaron. What does it mean that Jesus is considered a priest in the order of Melchizedek and why is that good news for us?
Jesus is indeed a better High Priest than anyone who came before or after. And because of this, our relationship with our saving God is secure. Today we’ll explore what that means.
Live-stream and in-person worship begin at 9:30 AM. Please CLICK HERE to download the link to the live-stream itself.
We will be streaming on our Facebook Page as well: CLICK HERE .

Sunday Bible Classes
Foundations: Basic Christian Teachings
Pastor Mike is leading a nine-session overview of the basic teachings of the Christian Faith on Sundays at 11:00 in Room 10. This class is an opportunity to grow in understanding what it means to follow Jesus, and to learn about what it means to be part of our faith community.
This week’s session is entitled “Jesus Christ.” We seek to answer these questions: Who is He? What did He do? What does it mean? We’ll also be talking about the meaning of the Gospel, being saved by grace through faith, and how this compares to other forms of modern spirituality.

Romans
Joel Wahlers is leading a study of the book of Romans on Sundays at 11:00 in Room 8. Paul’s letter to the Romans is considered by many to be one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith. Writing to Christians, the apostle Paul defines the Gospel, explores its depths, and discusses its significance and implications for the Christian life. This class makes use of Right Now Video teaching by J.D. Greear.
Women’s Bible Study
The Women’s Bible study will next meet on October 4 at 10:00 AM in Room 10. All are invited! The study will be using “Christ Esteem” by Don Matzat.
Christian History Almanac
In the sermon last Sunday, September 25, Pastor Mike mentioned the “Christian History Almanac” and the way Dr. Van Voorhis signs off each day. If you would like to check out the daily podcast, please search online for “Christian History Almanac” or CLICK HERE.
New Setting of the Liturgy
Last Sunday we introduced two parts of an alternate setting of the liturgy, the “Lord Have Mercy (Kyrie)” and the “Glory to God (Gloria).” Over the next couple of months we’ll be adding the rest of this setting of the service. We will be introducing the “Holy Holy Holy (Sanctus)” on October 9.
