Hebrews: Jesus is Better
“The Great High Priest”
September 11, 2022
Please CLICK HERE to download the service notes.
As We Gather
Jesus is the ultimate high priest, identifying with us, yet sinless, and offering the perfect sacrifice for all sin. Because He is our high priests, we can approach God with confidence, trusting in His mercy. Do we look to Him alone for our standing before God?
Live-stream and in-person worship begin at 9:30 AM. Please CLICK HERE to download the link to the live-stream itself.
We will be streaming on our Facebook Page as well: CLICK HERE .
We will celebrate Holy Communion at this service.
Sunday Bible Classes Starting September 11
Foundations: Basic Christian Teachings
Pastor Mike will be leading an eight-session overview of the basic teachings of the Christian Faith. This hour-long class will begin on Sunday, September 11 in Room 10 at 11:00 AM. This is an opportunity to grow in understanding what it means to follow Jesus, and to learn about what it means to be part of our faith community. Foundations is also part of the process of becoming a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. If you have questions about Foundations or would like to sign up, please contact Pastor Mike or the church office.
Romans
Joel Wahlers will be leading a study of the book of Romans. Paul’s letter to the Romans is considered by many to be one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith. Writing to Christians, the apostle Paul defines the gospel, explores its depths, and discusses its significance and implications for the Christian life. This class will make use of Right Now Video teaching by J.D. Greear. The class will meet on Sundays at 11:00 in Room 8.
Navigation Zoom with Rev. Greg Finke on September 15
Our next “Navigation Zoom” with Pastor Greg Finke is on Thursday September 15, at 6:00 PM (Note the time change). Watch the E-Vine next week for the link to join the zoom discussion.
As Pastor Finke mentioned at the workshop and on Sunday May 15, the follow up Navigation Zooms are designed to help us receive the encouragement, coaching, and accountability we need to help us “navigate” the process of joining Jesus throughout the next six months. The Zoom session will last between 40-45 minutes.
Youth News
Surge is in fact surging! We are a couple of events into the school year and it has been a blast! We will meet again on Tuesday from 6-7:30pm in Room 10.
Confirmation had quite the kickoff last night! A total blast to be back in the swing of things and I can see this being a great year in the ministry. I ask that we, as a congregation, walk alongside our young people in prayer this year. We will be meeting Wednesday from 7-8:30 in Room 10.
Strike! High school youth will meet at Napa Bowl from 5-7pm on Sunday evening! Come on out and join us!
Preschool Bibles:
Howdy y’all! The time has come for us to bless our youngest students with Bibles. Can you remember your first Bible? Maybe you can or maybe you can’t, but I am sure we can all agree that the Bible is so important for all of us, especially kids! We will be giving each of our new preschoolers a Beginner’s Bible full of pictures and true stories about God’s love. We ask that you would join us in helping to fund this mission. We will have sign ups and a table on Sunday September 18th for these Bibles.
Please contact Kevin Mathison with any questions.
Women’s Bible Study
The women’s Bible study will be starting on Tuesday, September 20 at 10:00 AM in Room 10. All are invited! The study subject will be announced soon.
“Calling all volunteers! Saturday, October 22nd we will be hosting our first ever Oktoberfest that will feature food, drinks, fellowship, and entertainment. Please let Josh or the church office know if you’d like to help make this an incredible event for the church, school, and community.
