Worship for Sunday, November 8:
The End of the World As We Know It
“Keep Watch”
Are you ready for Jesus? In Matthew 25, Jesus paints three pictures to illustrate how He calls us to live while we wait and watch for Him. This refers to His return in glory but can also be applied to being called to Jesus in death. We will be exploring these three pictures over the next three Sundays.
Today we consider the picture of wise and foolish virgins waiting for the bridegroom to arrive during the night. The wise have oil for their lamps, while the foolish are unprepared and run out of oil, leaving themselves in the dark. Jesus calls His followers to keep watch and wait for Him, with oil in our lamps. How do we do this?
Worship In Person and Live Stream
Worship will be live stream and in-person at 9:30 AM. We will not be handing out bulletins, but you are welcome to download and bring your own copy of the worship handout. Podcast: The Big Book of New Testament Questions and Answers – narrated by Sarah Kramer
Have you ever wondered, “What does this verse mean?” or “How do I explain this part of the Bible to a non-Christian friend?” Check out this podcast which explores New Testament Q&As collected by Dr. Michael Eschelbach, a theology professor (formerly at Concordia University Chicago, now at CU Irvine), from his students. The first 12 episodes focus on Galatians, with more books to come!
And…if the voice sounds familiar, that’s because St. John’s member Sarah Kramer is the narrator! Please subscribe to the podcast (Apple, Google, Spotify, and more!) to be notified when a new episode is released. Please also rate and review the podcast – the more listeners it has, the more episodes they will make!
Can’t wait? Do you want all the answers now? You can also purchase the book, The Big Book of New Testament Questions and Answers, in paperback or ebook format. There’s more info at www.CPH.org . This is a great resource to help us grow in our faith and knowledge of Scripture and to engage in discussions with fellow Christians and non-believers alike. Enjoy and share!
