“Semper Fidelis”
November 19, 2023
Please CLICK HERE to download the service notes.
As We Gather We are poised near the end of the Church Year (and perhaps the end of this present age or life itself). When exactly will the Lord return? Only the Father knows. Yet all the signs of the End Time are present. When it comes, our Lord says it will come suddenly. Hence we need to live lives watchfully, wisely, and faithfully. This Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus’ “Parable of the Talents”, paints a word picture of what it means to live faithfully! Invest your God-given “talents” for the sake of God’s kingdom. Don’t bury them. We will be celebrating Holy Communion at this service.
Live-stream and in-person worship begin at 9:30 AM. Please CLICK HERE to download the link to the live-stream itself.

Every Waking Hour: An Introduction to Word and Vocation for Christians
By Benjamin T. Quinn and Walter R. Strickland II
What does our faith mean on Monday morning? How are Christians to think about and approach their work and vocation? This little book is a brief answer to those questions.
The authors begin their presentation by reflecting on the fact that we follow a working God, who gave Adam work to do in the garden – before the fall. Work is a good thing that is pleasing to God, not a punishment for the fall. In fact, our work is the means by which God distributes His good gifts to all people. It’s common to think that we are only serving God and doing a holy work when we are engaged in spiritual matters. But the authors point out all our work is a holy work because God has given it to us to do and He is at work through it.
This is about vocation, which is actually a broader topic than work. Each of us has several vocations in which we serve God and others: family, worker, neighbor, etc. The point is to see that every waking moment is an opportunity to glorify God as we live out these vocations.
This book is a helpful resource in thinking about the work that we do, whether paid or unpaid, and how it can be done to the glory of God and the good of our neighbor. There is a copy of this book, along with previously recommended books on the Church Library cart in the Narthex, available for checking out. Previous recommendations can be found here: Pastor Mike’s Bookshelf.
Worship Tech Overhaul
At the open form on November 12, Pastor Mike, Jacob Bartelt and Joshua Wright presented the recommendations of the Worship Tech consultant that we contracted to assess our worship audio, projection and streaming and propose solutions to the many issues plaguing our use of tech in worship. The presentation was recorded and can be viewed and listened to here: https://youtu.be/vEDajtR9xpg
The funding for this important project is not in our budget, so we are inviting and encouraging donations. You can make this offering by check or online, just make sure that it is marked “Worship Tech Upgrade.”
