Streaming Worship for May 24: The Ascension of our Lord
On Sunday, we will celebrate the Ascension of Christ. Forty days after His resurrection Jesus removed His visible presence from earth in order to reign as true God and true man over the whole universe and particularly His Body, the Church. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians prays that by God’s power all who believe in Christ would know the hope of the Gospel, the riches of His glorious inheritance, and His great power in our lives. These blessings come to us as Jesus continues to be present with us in the Word and Sacraments. He fills His Church so that His Church may be the fullness of Him.
Please go to this page (https://stjohnslutheran.net/live-streaming-worship-at-st-johns/) for information regarding the services and to link to the live stream itself. For all our services, we encourage you to download the worship handout prior to the service. The handout contains the words to the hymns and songs, as well as the readings, and the other components of the service. The handout also describes how to worship the Lord with your offering.

Bible Sponsorship for 8th Grade Students
We would like to send our 8th graders off to high school with a new study bible. Would you like to help by sponsoring one of these Bibles and sending an encouraging card to one of them?
All of our students receive Bibles in the 2nd grade. But many of them are in sorry shape by the end of 8th grade. This is not a bad thing! It shows they have been used! We want to bless our 8th graders as they graduate with a new study Bible that contains to encourage them to continue exploring and growing in God’s Word. Here is more information about the Bible https://www.zondervan.com/9780310941767/niv-quest-study-bible-for-teens-hardcover/
If you are interested, what should you do?
- Please contact the church office or Pastor Mike (pastormike@stjohnslutheran.net). If there is a specific 8th grader that you would like to sponsor, let us know. Otherwise we will pick one for you and share with you his or her name.
- Write a letter or card for the student to go with the Bible. This can be a graduation card, or a simple note card.
- Get the card or letter to the church office. You can drop it off or mail it. Please get them to us by June 1.
- Make your donation. The Bibles are $27. Please mark your donation “8th grade Bibles”
When they graduate, the students will receive the Bible you have gifted along with your card or letter. If you have any questions, please ask Pastor Mike.
Wednesday Night Worship for May 27
We are continuing our walk through the Gospel of Matthew, seeking to grow in understanding God’s Word and what it means in our lives today. This Wednesday, May 27, we’ll be looking at Matthew 3:1-12. Our theme is “A Fruitful Repentance.” The Lord sent John the Baptist to prepare for the ministry of the Messiah by calling people to repentance, and then baptizing them in the Jordan. What do John’s words mean for us today??
Returning to the Sanctuary?
We still do not know when this will be but are anticipating news soon. Please stay tuned!
Rev. Mike Lange, the District President of the California-Hawaii-Nevada District of the LCMS, along with Dr. Mike Gibson, the District President of the Pacific Southwest District, jointly sent a letter to Governor Newsom requesting that in person worship be considered essential, and so would be allowed to resume.
