When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately.
I must stay at your house today.”
So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly. ~Luke 19:5-6
This Sunday: We continue our worship series “Pursuing the Good Life.” We will look at the words and ways of Jesus about what we value and how we spend it. We will look at our lives in terms of how we are investing and how we are spending the “capital” or “resources” that we have. What resources are we talking about? We’ll look at our spiritual, relational, physical, intellectual and financial resources. Are we keeping these in the proper priority? Are we spending these resources, this capital, in a way that leads to the “good life”? Sunday, we look especially at the importance of investing in relational capital. Jesus invests in a relationship with Zacchaeus and changes his life. Our reading from Romans illustrates how important relationships were to Paul’s ministry. How are you building relational capital?
As a companion to this series, we encourage you to read the book “Oikonomics” by Mike Breen and Ben Sternkee. Copies are available in the church entryway for $10. It can also be purchased here as an e-book (Kindle) for $5.99.
This Sunday is also Transfiguration Sunday. We commemorate Jesus revealing His glory to Peter, James and John, and the call of the Father to “listen to Him.” May the Spirit prepare our heart and lives to listen to Him today!
Deadline for applications is March 31, 2015. Actual grant amount to each student is undetermined but will be based, in part, upon the number of students requesting assistance. So, if you are considering attending a synodical university–even if you have not made a final decision–please send a brief note informing us of where you are in your decision process so that we can plan accordingly.
I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. ~Luke 16:9
