Eyes Fixed on the Unseen
In Sunday’s reading from 2 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul reminds us that outwardly we are wasting away. Suffering, struggle, and age take their toll on the human body. The result of being a sinner in a sinful world is decay and death. Inwardly though, through the work of the Holy Spirit, we are continually being renewed. The Gospel power through Word and sacrament enables us to spiritually survive and thrive as we keep our eyes fixed on the unseen promises of God. By faith, we hold onto the eternal glory that outweighs all our light and momentary troubles.

COVID has been exhausting on many levels. Even as it appears that in some ways that we are coming out of the pandemic, in many ways the disruption is far from over. So many changes, upheavals, and canceled plans have left many exhausted, discouraged, and stressed – sometimes beyond what we even realize. We need strength. We need encouragement. God provides this in abundance through His grace. This summer, we will be focus on encouraging words from Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians in our worship series “Strength in our Weakness.”
