Living Water (Ezekiel 46:1-47:12)
Ezekiel 47 begins with the beautiful image of the water flowing from the temple which gives life to the world. Where this water flowed, salty became fresh, fruit trees grow, and their leaves are for healing. This image is brought to mind also in the picture of the new creation in Revelation 22. It is a picture of healing and restoration.
What is fascinating about this stream of life-giving water from the temple is that the stream grows the further it flows. There are no other tributaries feeding it. No other streams or sources to add to the river, and yet it grows deeper and mightier the further it flows into the world.
Many have looked at this as a picture of the mission of God going forth into the world. It all flows from one source, the new and resurrected temple, Jesus Christ. And yet, as his life-giving grace flows into the world, it grows as more and more are blessed by His mission and join in His mission.
So my prayer today is for the mission of God to grow in my life and to grow through our community and world. I pray that the life-giving stream of God’s grace would only increase so that it touches more and more lives for the sake of the kingdom and the praise of His name.
