1 I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant,
4 ‘I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
5 The heavens praise your wonders, Lord,
your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
6 For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?
7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared;
he is more awesome than all who surround him.
8 Who is like you, Lord God Almighty?
You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

What struck me in today’s psalm is the legacy of Ethan the Ezrahite, whom the subscription identifies as the author of this psalm.
Ethan writes of the Lord’s great love. He cannot keep news of it contained. He states that he will make the Lord’s love known with his mouth and will declare the Lord’s faithfulness. What is interesting is that he intends to make the Lord’s faithfulness known through all generations. And by putting his praise in the form of this psalm, he has done exactly that. Every generation from the time of Ezra the Ezrahite has used his words as part of their life of praise. What a legacy!
Our faithfulness today is not just about today, but about future generations. What will be the legacy of my witness? What about yours? Does the Lord’s love compel me as it did Ethan to desire to proclaim the Lord’s love not just to the present generation but to future generations?
My prayer today is for my witness. I pray that the Lord’s great love for me would work in me a growing desire to proclaim His love. And I pray that my witness would be multiplies by His grace not just for those to whom I directly witness, but through their lives into the lives of others.
