Strength in our Weakness
“Comforted and Comforting”
June 6, 2021
As We Gather
COVID has been exhausting on many levels. Even as it appears that in some ways we are coming out of the pandemic, in many ways the disruption is far from over. So many changes, upheavals, and canceled plans have left many exhausted, discouraged, and stressed – sometimes beyond what we even realize. We need strength. We need encouragement. God provides this in abundance through His grace.
This summer, we will be focus on encouraging words from Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians in our worship series “Strength in our Weakness.” Today we consider Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 1:3-11. We are comforted by God in our troubles so that we can bring comfort to others in their trouble. In Christ, we are comforted and comforting.

Bible Sponsorship for 8th Grade Graduates
We would like to send our 8th graders off to high school with a new study Bible. Would you like to help by sponsoring one of these Bibles and sending an encouraging card to one of them?
All of our students receive Bibles in the 2nd grade. But many of them are in sorry shape by the end of 8th grade. This is not a bad thing! It shows they have been used! We want to bless our 8th graders as they graduate with a new study Bible that contains to encourage them to continue exploring and growing in God’s Word. Here is more information about the Bible https://www.zondervan.com/9780310941767/niv-quest-study-bible-for-teens-hardcover/
If you are interested, what should you do?
- Please contact the church office or Kevin Mathison (kevin@stjohnslutheran.net). If there is a specific 8th grader that you would like to sponsor, let us know. Otherwise we will pick one for you and share with you his or her name.
- Write a letter or card for the student to go with the Bible. This can be a graduation card, or a simple note card.
- Get the card or letter to the church office. You can drop it off or mail it. Please get them to us by June 1.
- Make your donation. The Bibles are $25. Please mark your donation “8th grade Bibles”
When they graduate, the students will receive the Bible you have gifted along with your card or letter.
If you have any questions, please ask Pastor Mike or Kevin Mathison.

THE MYSTERY OF THE TRINITY R.C. SPROUL
https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/466
Many of us, when asked about the Trinity, unknowingly offer incorrect answers. Yet a proper understanding of this doctrine is essential to the health and welfare of the church. In this series, Dr. R.C. Sproul gives a sweeping overview of this important doctrine, explaining difficult concepts, exploring biblical teaching, and defining what the term mystery means.
