This Week’s Memory Verse
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! ~Romans 5:15
We continue our worship series on Paul’s letter to the Romans. Grace was the heart of the message that Paul preached. As he began to prepare to go to Rome to preach and teach there, he sent a letter to the church to serve as an introduction to his message. That letter, Paul’s letter to the Romans, is the most systematic and thorough treatment of the plan of salvation in the New Testament. Reading almost like a theology text book, Paul lays out the need for grace and the amazing gift of grace.
Why be good? If forgiveness is free, and God loves to give it away for free, then why be good? Why not sin even more so God can do what He loves to do, to forgive? Paul lays out the deepest, most profound reason for the Christian to turn away from sin. It’s about identity. It’s about the amazing oneness that we have with Jesus, united with Him in His death and resurrection in Baptism.
