Live Stream Worship on Sunday at 9:30 AM
Worship for August 16: “David and Saul, Part 2”
The last chapter of 1 Samuel and the first chapter of 2 Samuel describe the tragic end to King Saul’s reign and David’s response to the news. Saul’s disobedience to God, his obsession with power, and his uncontrolled jealousy of David ultimately led to his failure as king, the defeat of Israel, and his own death as well as that of his sons. Even though David had been in exile to protect his life from Saul, he and all his men greatly grieved all these losses. He shows honor and respect to the fallen king, his son Jonathan, and the nation of Israel. Once again we see the character of David. A man after God’s own heart. It is not the character of Saul that he respects, rather it is the fact he was the one God chose to anoint as king. Today, we focus on the lesson God teaches through David of respect and honor of those He has called.
