37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them;
I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38 I crushed them so that they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet.
39 You armed me with strength for battle;
you humbled my adversaries before me.
40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight,
and I destroyed my foes.
41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them—
to the Lord, but he did not answer.
42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust;
I trampled them like mud in the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
you have made me the head of nations.
People I did not know now serve me,
44 foreigners cower before me;
as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45 They all lose heart;
they come trembling from their strongholds.

Today’s passage is similar to yesterday’s and continues the same thought: David giving credit to the Lord for his accomplishments. In this passage, David is focusing specifically on the ability which the Lord gave him to defeat his enemies.
Thinking once again that our enemies today are not flesh and blood but rather spiritual, I can’t help but think of James 4:7 – “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We pray for the Lord’s guidance and deliverance in dealing with evil. In fact He instructs us to pray for these things daily: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” The Lord knows that we need this guidance and we depend on His deliverance. During these days of COVID-19, we seek to be led away from and deliver from the temptations of doubt, fear, depression, and all the other ways in which the evil one is seeking to undermine our faith.
So, this section is a reminder to give the Lord credit for His work in me when I follow His way, and not the path of sin. I am reminded to give Him credit daily for delivering me from evil daily as well, giving me victory over spiritual evil in every thought, word, and deed.
So, this is my prayer today, that I be led away from temptation, and be delivered from whatever the enemy is intending to place in my path this day. I give God thanks for the countless times He has answered this prayer in the past for me and call on Him once again to go before me today, that I might walk in His victory.
