1 Hasten, O God, to save me;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.
2 May those who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
turn back because of their shame.
4 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Lord, do not delay.

One of the first thoughts that came to my mind this morning after reading this psalm several times is that I’m thankful that I’m not feeling as desperate as David was when he wrote this. Although I need the Lord’s presence and deliverance every day, I can’t say that on this day that the words that David used fit my life and how I’m feeling about it.
And so what jumped out at me was verse 4. David prays that all those who long for the Lord’s saving help would have cause to call the Lord great. In other words, He is praying that all those who need the Lord’s help would receive the Lord’s help and praise Him for it. Isn’t it interesting that is desperate as David was, he was still concerned to pray for others is desperate situations? That is certainly a practice worth emulating.
And so my prayer today is for those who are feeling as down and out as David describes here. I can think of several whose struggles are known to me. I am praying especially for them this morning that the Lord would help them in their troubles and that they would be led to praise Him for the help that He will surely give.
