Inheritance (Ezekiel 44:28-45:25)
The phrase that jumped out at me in today’s passage is the statement in 44:28 that the Lord will be the inheritance for the priests. This echoes the way the promised land was divided up among the tribes, with no land being given to the priestly tribe, the Levites. Instead they were to look on the Lord as their inheritance, and trust for their provision to come from him.
On a practical level, it meant that they lived off the offerings made by the people of the other tribes.
But on a broader level, these words are for us all. We are to look upon the Lord as our inheritance. That is true in a most meaningful way. We look to the Lord for our daily bread, our daily provision each day. And we look to Him alone for the inheritance which He has promised for eternity. Nothing that we have done or earned will secure that inheritance. That is true whether we speak of our daily bread today, or the new creation in eternity. It is all that we have and it is our inheritance from a loving God.
My prayer is that I go through this day thankful for the inheritance that I receive daily, and for the one that has been given to me for eternity. I pray that my life will be a fit thank offering to such a gracious God.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
