This Week’s Memory Verse
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. ~1 Peter 4:8
As We Gather
God has blessed His people with spiritual gifts. But for what purpose? In this chapter, Paul addresses an over-emphasis on the gift of speaking in tongues. What is the purpose of this gift? What is the purpose of other gifts? Paul seeks to bring clarity to their understanding and practice by reminding them – and us – that when we come together in worship, we seek to be built up as the body, and to proclaim the glory of God to outsiders. How are we gifted for this mission?

When We Need God’s Love Most…When do we need God’s love most? Of course we need that love every second of our lives. But at times God’s love is especially precious to us, times when: we lose a loved one; life becomes so confusing that we do not know where to turn; we are dealing with a chronic illness; or life just becomes meaningless and depression sets in. At times like these, it is very important to have someone who cares. Our congregation has trained seven lay people, Stephen Ministers who offer a ministry of Christian caring for those in need. To request the ministry of a Stephen Minister, contact Penni Cremen pcremen@msn.com or Pastor Mark pastormark@stjohnslutheran.net
