This Week’s Memory Verse
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. ~Matthew 5:23-24
As We Gather
“I have the right to do anything.” Paul quotes the Corinthians in today’s passage, but he could as easily have been quoting someone from our own time. The “wisdom of the age,” our age, asserts that all things are permissible, as long as we aren’t hurting anyone else, but is this truly the case? Paul reminds us that we are not our own. We belong to Christ. This is the fundamental truth that is to shape all of our actions.
Old Testament Genesis 39:1-23
Psalm: Psalm 119:9-16
Epistle 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Gospel Matthew 5:27-30

- Stephen Ministry – Crisis: An emotionally charged time of instability during which a crucial change occurs…The Chinese word for crisis is a combination of two Characters: one for “danger,” the other for “opportunity.” This drives home the fact that every crisis, though it involves impending danger, also offers opportunities for personal or spiritual growth. Stephen Ministers are trained to walk with you through the dangers of your crisis and to help you find the opportunities God has in store for you. Training for our first Stephen Ministers begins August 23. For more information about Stephen Ministry contact Pam Barker, Penni Cremen, or Pastor Mark.
