The E-Vine: A Weekly News Update from St. John’s December 12, 2019

This Week’s Memory Verse
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9
As We Gather
In answering John the Baptist’s question about whether Jesus was the Christ, whether the Christ had truly come, Jesus points to the lives of the people that He had encountered. Their changed lives pointed to who He is. Jesus came to give Himself. He gave His presence, instead of just presents. In the same way, Advent calls us to give relationally, just like Jesus.
First Reading Isaiah 35:1-10
Psalm 146
Second Reading James 5:7-11
Holy Gospel Matthew 11:2-5
Children’s Church: Teresa Schmid, Erika Boudreaux, Scott Zimmerman
You Input Invited: Ministry Plan 2020-21. We are beginning the process of developing our ministry plan for 2020-2021 and beyond. We would like your input and involvement as we seek the Lord’s guidance regarding the ministry and mission we share. The following survey is structured in terms of the St. John’s mission statement: “Leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, His followers, and His world. (Up-In-Out) ” The results of the survey will be shared with the congregation and will be discussed in upcoming ministry forums. Thank you for your participation.

Our annual School Christmas Programs will be on Sunday, December 15. Our Choraliers, Handbell Choir, and 4-5th grade choir will perform at 2:00 p.m. This year, our lower grades (K-3) will be performing a Christmas Musical at 3:30 p.m. In addition, the APT will be having an ornament sale and small auction in the Parish Hall that afternoon during and between performances.

Service of Lessons and Carols: This service, led by our Sanctuary Choir, will be on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00 pm. The service of lessons and carols consists of alternating scripture readings, and hymns and anthems, sung by both the choir and the congregation. The readings and carol texts highlight the anticipation and coming of the Messiah. There will be a soup supper in the Parish Hall at 6:00 PM.
Calling all Christmas Cookie Bakers! Again this year, Team Aaron will be providing home baked cookies for the students at Camille Creek Community School. We are looking for some help from our St. John’s family. If you would like to provide home baked cookies for the students, please contact Christy in the church office. (Please do not use recipes with nuts.) Please drop off cookies by Sunday, December 15th. This makes a great family project! Thank you for partnering with us to bring some Christmas joy to these students.

Social Media at St. John’s… St. John’s and its ministries stay in contact with the community in many ways, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and our own websites. It takes a lot of effort to keep the websites up to date and to keep the communication current and flowing on social media. The social media team is all volunteer and we could use a few more tech-savvy people to help us out. If you are a fan of social media and would like to help us communicate to our members, parents, students, and community, we could use your help. Contact us by email: sjlcsocialmedia@gmail.com
Also, if you have something you’d like to see us talk about or promote on social media, please use the same contact info.

You can sign in either in the church or school office.
