Worship for September 6: “David and Uzzah: Holiness”
As David attempts to move the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, a man named Uzzah touched the Ark in fear that it would fall from the wagon. He instantly dies. Why would God do this? Why is this the result of a reflex action to protect the Ark? David responded in anger. At God? At himself? Today’s story recorded in 2 Samuel 6 is about the unyielding holiness of God. He will not compromise His laws and commands. Rather than being terrified by the holiness of God, it should be our hope. In His holiness He is serious about our sin and absolutely driven to rescue us from it.

Four Week Apostles’ Creed Bible Study – Via Zoom
An Apostles’ Creed for the New Millennium is a course by Crossways International using colorful visuals to learn and retain the material. Here is an opportunity to have a better understanding of what you are confessing when you say the creed. Pastor Mark will be leading this class via Zoom on Tuesday evenings starting at 7:00 from September 8 to September 29. Fire Relief Assistance
St. John’s has a fund for helping people who have been affected by the fires. If you are in need of assistance, or know of someone who could use this assistance, please let us know. Contact the church office. All requests will be referred to our benevolence committee, which oversees grants from the fund.
Wednesday Night Worship
“Love Your Enemy”
Jesus calls us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. In this way we show ourselves to be children of the heavenly Father. The Board of Directors has set a date for a Congregational meeting. The agenda will include:
- Election for five of the nine positions on the Board of Directors
- Consideration and Adoption of the Ministry Plan and Budget for 2020-2021

In-Person Worship Reopens Sunday, September 20 at 9:30 AM
We are pleased to announce that in-person worship at St. John’s will resume on Sunday, September 20. There will only be one service at 9:30 AM. All the procedures the task force previously put in place will remain the same. They are listed below. We will be singing during the service as long as a surgical mask rather than a cloth mask is being worn. If you don’t have one, one will be provided as you enter church.
If you plan to return to in-person worship please consider serving as a volunteer if you aren’t already doing so. We are in need of ushers, Communion assistants, worship preparation, and techs for sound, projection, and on-line streaming. Let Pastor Mike or Pastor Mark know if you can serve in any of these areas.
We will be following these guidelines for in-person worship:
- If you are not feeling well or have a fever, please stay home.
- If you are part of one of the groups more vulnerable to coronavirus, please consider not attending at this time.
- A face covering is required and must cover the nose and the mouth throughout the service.
- Hand sanitizer (provided) must be used when entering and exiting the building.
- Entry will be only through the main doors off the patio using the gate by the bell tower.
- Ushers will seat worshipers from front to back maintaining social distance. Family groups need to all enter the church at the same time.
- Only the bathrooms in the Parish Hall (Gym) will be open.
- Bulletins will not be handed out. Everything will be on the screens. If you would like an order of service you can print one out from the church website and bring it with you. Please take it with you after the service.
We certainly understand if you are not ready yet to return to in-person worship. The service will be live streamed each Sunday as well as the Wednesday night 7:00 PM service. Thank you for your faithfulness, patience, and prayers.

COVID Testing at St. John’s
St. John’s Lutheran Church and School is hosting PMH Laboratory to provide COVID 19 testing to our church and school community. The purpose of this event is to assure that our community has access to accurate testing with timely results. Per the governor’s orders, all members of our faculty and staff shall test at least once every other month and we’re hoping that by providing these scheduled events and extending it to our church and school community, it will be a convenient option and opportunity for our community. Our scheduled event will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Please see the calendar link below that can be distributed to schedule an appointment for testing on 9/1. The process to register is as follows:

- Select if they are an employee or family member
- Select an available time slot
- Enter their name, phone number, and email.
The online scheduler will send reminders to each participant by email and text message 24 hours and 2 hours prior to their scheduled appointment. The sign up is open now and will be through Friday evening, August 28. The cost of the testing should be covered by your medical insurance. All participants will need to bring their insurance cards with them as PMH Laboratory will be direct billing your insurance. Currently, the calendar is set up to allow for 1 appointment per time slot.
