Reclaiming our St. John’s Community
Better Together
Joining Jesus on His Mission
October 10, 2021
As We Gather
The Church is better together, but not for the purpose of becoming an inward-focused club. We are better together not just for the sake of our own growth. We are better together for the world, for sake of the people beloved by Jesus who do not yet know Him as Savior. In John 17:21, Jesus prayed for all His followers, including us today, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.”
We follow our “Better Together” series these next three weeks by focusing on how Jesus has called us together to join Him on His mission. We are not only better together with each other, we are also better together with those in our families, neighborhoods, and beyond who have yet to come to faith in Jesus.

Sunday Morning Bible Class: Worship
This Sunday after worship (approximately 11:00 AM), Pastor Mike will lead the third and final session of a study on the topic of worship, and specifically, what in the way of worship is best for St. John’s. Recordings of previous session are on our YouTube channel (Sunday Bible Class Playlist)
Upcoming Sunday Bible Classes
Both of these studies begin on October 17 after worship (approximately 11:00)
“Foundations”
Do you know what you believe and why you believe it? Pastor Mike will be leading a seven-session overview of the foundational teachings of the Christian Faith. This class will help you to speak about your faith more confidently and to better understand the connection between these truths and the contemporary concerns. This class will meet in Room 10
“Ephesians”
Has it ever dawned on you that nothing has ever dawned on God? He knew before the world began that His people would face hardship, so He gave us His Word. The Book of Ephesians is a survival manual—it equips believers to thrive in a world that hates the message of Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle writes to encourage believers to live well—we’ve been lifted from the graveyard of sin and called to shout the gospel into the darkened world. Joel Wahlers will be leading this nine session study, making use of Right Now Media teaching by pastor and author J.D. Greear. This group will meet at church, location to be determined.
Upcoming Small Groups
We are very excited about these new groups starting. Please contact the leaders for more information and to sign up.
“God’s Unbreakable Promises” Tuesdays at 1:00 PM, beginning October 26

The goal of this study is to better understand the story of God and the big picture of His unfailing love for us. Sandee Schachner will lead this group, making use of Right Now Media teaching by Jennie Allen, Lauren Chandler, and Jada Edwards. This group will meet at church in the Sacristy.
“The Chosen” Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, beginning October 27
This group will view this unique series about the life of Christ, focusing on seeing Jesus through the eyes of those around Him. Each week we will view an episode and then engage in discussion and study of God’s Word. Pastor Mike and Teresa will be leading this group, meeting in their home (1701 Monarch Dr.) For more information about “The Chosen” go to https://watch.angelstudios.com/thechosen
“Master Your Money: A Step-by-Step Plan for Experiencing Financial Contentment.” Thursdays from 7:00, beginning October 28

They will also be using Right Now Media videos from Crown Financial Ministries. This group will meet at Tom & Elaine’s home (10 Glen Court).
“The Prodigal God” Wednesdays at 2:00 PM, beginning November 3
This six-session small group Bible study will focus on one of Jesus’ best-loved parables- the Prodigal Son- to illustrate the depth of God’s love and how His grace extends into some very unexpected places. Bob and Doris Klein will lead this study, making use of Right Now Media teaching by pastor and author Tim Keller. Children’s Ministry
CHILDREN’S CHURCH IS COMING BACK!
We are happy to announce that Children’s Church will be starting up again! We have a new curriculum that will be used on Sunday mornings called GOSPEL LIGHT. These classes are for Preschool-1st Graders and 2nd through 4th Grade.
The children will be dismissed during the worship service with the teachers right before the Bible readings . They will be in the classrooms for approximately 30 minutes and then their teachers will bring them back to their parents in the church. The preschool through first graders will meet in the Preschool classroom and the 2nd-4th graders will meet in the school library.
We are hoping that this will continue to be a positive experience for the young children in our congregation and for their parents as well.
If you are interested in being blessed as a teacher and would like to teach once a month please let me know asap! I would like to get this going on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Janis King.
