Worship for Reformation Sunday, October 25: “The Lord Almighty is With Us”
Psalm 46 forms the basis of Martin Luther’s great Reformation hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Both the Psalm and the hymn describe God as actively controlling everything. He delivers disaster and deliverance. He decides our fate. Both the Psalmist and Luther have no doubts about where they stand with God. They confidently assume that God is on their side. Do you have that confidence? Do you ever wonder in the midst of troubles if He is on your side or even around at all? Through this Psalm and this hymn God wants us to know where He is readily found in times of trouble, how He is our refuge and strength, and that in all circumstances the Lord Almighty is with us.
This Sunday’s service will be a Communion service. For more information, please go to the streaming page on the website. (https://stjohnslutheran.net/live-streaming-worship-at-st-johns/

Wednesday Night Worship
“Judging Others”
This weeks we look at Matthew 7:1-6. As Jesus addresses the topic of judging He calls His followers to not be blind to their own faults and failings and hypocritically pass judgement on a fellow believer. Hypocritical judging destroys relationships. We continue our study of the Gospel of Matthew as we continue through the Sermon on the Mount. RightNow Media Recommendation for the Week
In the United States, when you cast your vote in an election, you are exercising rights given to you by the government. God gives Christians specific instructions about government and citizenship that go beyond merely voting. In this 3-part course, Gospel Coalition Council members and pastors Bryan Chapell and Sandy Willson examine the United States’ past, the present responsibilities of Christians to their government, and the future hope Christians have in heaven.

Podcast: The Big Book of New Testament Questions and Answers – narrated by Sarah Kramer
Have you ever wondered, “What does this verse mean?” or “How do I explain this part of the Bible to a non-Christian friend?” Check out this podcast which explores New Testament Q&As collected by Dr. Michael Eschelbach, a theology professor (formerly at Concordia University Chicago, now at CU Irvine), from his students. The first 12 episodes focus on Galatians, with more books to come!
And…if the voice sounds familiar, that’s because St. John’s member Sarah Kramer is the narrator! Please subscribe to the podcast (Apple, Google, Spotify, and more!) to be notified when a new episode is released. Please also rate and review the podcast – the more listeners it has, the more episodes they will make!
Can’t wait? Do you want all the answers now? You can also purchase the book, The Big Book of New Testament Questions and Answers, in paperback or ebook format. There’s more info at www.CPH.org .
This is a great resource to help us grow in our faith and knowledge of Scripture and to engage in discussions with fellow Christians and non-believers alike. Enjoy and share!
