Trinity Sunday
In the Image of the Triune God
May 30, 2021
As We Gather
This past year has been hard on relationships. Not only because of the stress brought on by the pandemic and the resulting restrictions, but also because we have been limited in our ability to be together. We have been challenged in living out our calling to love our neighbor.
This Sunday we celebrate Trinity Sunday. The doctrine of the Trinity, that God is one and God is three, may seem far removed the struggle to live in relationship. But such is not the case. God’s triune nature says much to us who are made in His image, not only about the importance of relationships, but also the power and strength to live out our relationships in a way that reflects the God whose essence is love.
Live-stream and in-person worship begin at 9:30 AM. Please CLICK HERE to download the handout, and to link to the live-stream itself.

Wednesday Night Worship: The Authority to Forgive
We continue our study of the Gospel of Matthew next week, looking at Matthew 9:1-8. Jesus healed and forgave a paralyzed man, leading to questions – and answers – about His authority to forgive. What does that mean in our walk with Jesus today? To access, please go to our streaming page CLICK HERE
Bible Sponsorship for 8th Grade Graduates
We would like to send our 8th graders off to high school with a new study Bible. Would you like to help by sponsoring one of these Bibles and sending an encouraging card to one of them?
All of our students receive Bibles in the 2nd grade. But many of them are in sorry shape by the end of 8th grade. This is not a bad thing! It shows they have been used! We want to bless our 8th graders as they graduate with a new study Bible that contains to encourage them to continue exploring and growing in God’s Word. Here is more information about the Bible https://www.zondervan.com/9780310941767/niv-quest-study-bible-for-teens-hardcover/
If you are interested, what should you do?
- Please contact the church office or Kevin Mathison (kevin@stjohnslutheran.net). If there is a specific 8th grader that you would like to sponsor, let us know. Otherwise we will pick one for you and share with you his or her name.
- Write a letter or card for the student to go with the Bible. This can be a graduation card, or a simple note card.
- Get the card or letter to the church office. You can drop it off or mail it. Please get them to us by June 1.
- Make your donation. The Bibles are $25. Please mark your donation “8th grade Bibles”
When they graduate, the students will receive the Bible you have gifted along with your card or letter.
If you have any questions, please ask Pastor Mike or Kevin Mathison.
Serving our Community through the Mission Farm
We are heading into the time of year when timely harvesting in our mission farm is critical. Not only does the harvest provide much needed fresh produce to the Napa Food Bank, but it also leads to ongoing fruitfulness of the plants.
In order to adequately harvest the anticipated bounty, we need more servants! This is an excellent way to serve the needy in our community while enjoying fellowship with other Mission Farm servants. If you are interested in serving, just show up on any Saturday morning. The Farm team will direct you to what needs done that day, as well provide information on other times to serve.
Communion Assistants Needed…
As more people are returning to in-person worship we are in need of additional people to assist with distributing Communion. If you are able to serve in this way, please contact Pastor Mark (pastormark@stjohnslutheran.net) for more information and training.

Right Now Media Recommendation
BASIC SERIES: WHO IS GOD? (3) – HOLY SPIRIT
God gives each of us the gift of the Holy Spirit, our source of supernatural power. But today the church acts neither “super” nor “natural.” How do we join the move of what the Spirit is doing? Maybe once we understand who the Holy Spirit is, the church can stop being so ordinary, and can start being the agents of change in the world that God designed us to be.
