This Week’s Memory Verse
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Romans 13:14
As We Gather
John the Baptist prepares for the coming of the Savior by calling the people to repentance. Some in the crowd asked for specifics regarding how they should live their lives in light of this news. John’s answers are a call to turn away from materialism and greed. What do his words mean for us as we prepare for Christmas?
First Reading Isaiah 11:1-10
Psalm 72:1-7
Second Reading Romans 15:4-13
Holy Gospel Luke 3:1-14

Advent Health and Healing Service… The Advent midweek service next Wednesday will be a “Health and Healing” service. This service will focus on the power of God’s Word to bring healing in the midst of physical ailments, strained relationships, and other difficulties and challenges in life. An extended period of time for community and personal prayers will be a part of the service, as well as anointing with oil. There will be a soup supper in the Parish Hall at 6:00 PM.
Upcoming Advent Midweek Services… The “Service of Lessons and Carols” led by the Sanctuary Choir will be on December 18.

(Please do not use recipes with nuts.) Please drop off cookies by Sunday, December 15th. This makes a great family project! Buy your Gift Cards at St. John’s! If you plan on purchasing gift cards this year, why not stop by the school office anytime during normal school hours to purchase them. There are no loading fees and you can purchase many of your cards at one location. No more driving all over town. Also, gift cards can be used to purchase many of your daily items; groceries, gas, coffee, clothing etc. All cards sold at SJLS receive a discount through the vendors and that profit goes to benefit our students and their families through tuition and the APT program. We sell cards for Amazon, Cinemark Theater, CVS, Home Depot, Food Shed, Hop Creek, Tarla Bar and Grill, Kohls, Michaels, Staples, Starbucks, Peets, Wal-Mart, Visa cards and so much more. Attached is a copy of our Gift Cards which we carry in house. Pick up the 2019 Holiday Gift Guide from the school office and see everything available. If we do not have what you need in stock, and are able to get it, we will order it and have it to you in just a couple of days.

Social Media at St. John’s… St. John’s and its ministries stay in contact with the community in many ways, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and our own websites. It takes a lot of effort to keep the websites up to date and to keep the communication current and flowing on social media. The social media team is all volunteer and we could use a few more tech-savvy people to help us out. If you are a fan of social media and would like to help us communicate to our members, parents, students, and community, we could use your help. Contact us by email: sjlcsocialmedia@gmail.com
Also, if you have something you’d like to see us talk about or promote on social media, please use the same contact info.
