Reclaiming our St. John’s Community
Better Together: Into the World
Joining Jesus on His Online Mission
October 24, 2021
As We Gather
We conclude our series “Better Together: Into the World” this Sunday. We have been focusing on how Jesus has called us together to join Him on His mission. We are not only better together with each other. We are also better together with those in our families, neighborhoods and beyond who have yet to come to faith in Jesus. This includes our witness online, our presence on social media and all the ways in which technology today can be used by God for ministry. How can you be an online witness for Jesus today?
Live-stream and in-person worship begin at 9:30 AM. Please CLICK HERE to link to the handout, and CLICK HERE to download the service handout.

Sunday Morning Bible Classes
Even if you missed the first session last week, you are welcome to join this Sunday.
“Foundations”
Do you know what you believe and why you believe it? Pastor Mike is leading a seven-session overview of the foundational teachings of the Christian Faith. This class will help you to speak about your faith more confidently and to better understand the connection between these truths and the contemporary concerns. Previous classes can be viewed on the Foundations playlist on YouTube channel: This class will meet in Room 10
“Ephesians”
Has it ever dawned on you that nothing has ever dawned on God? He knew before the world began that His people would face hardship, so He gave us His Word. The Book of Ephesians is a survival manual—it equips believers to thrive in a world that hates the message of Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle writes to encourage believers to live well—we’ve been lifted from the graveyard of sin and called to shout the gospel into the darkened world. Joel Wahlers will be leading this nine session study, making use of Right Now Media teaching by pastor and author J.D. Greear. This group will meet at church, location to be determined.
Upcoming Small Groups
We are very excited about these new groups starting. Please contact the leaders for more information and to sign up.
“God’s Unbreakable Promises” Tuesdays at 1:00 PM, beginning October 26
This six-session study will focus some of the promises and covenants God made with His people. The goal of this study is to better understand the story of God and the big picture of His unfailing love for us. Sandee Schachner will lead this group, making use of Right Now Media teaching by Jennie Allen, Lauren Chandler, and Jada Edwards. This group will meet at church in the Sacristy.
“The Chosen” Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, beginning October 27
This group will view this unique series about the life of Christ, focusing on seeing Jesus through the eyes of those around Him. Each week we will view an episode and then engage in discussion and study of God’s Word. Pastor Mike and Teresa will be leading this group, meeting in their home (1701 Monarch Dr.) For more information about “The Chosen” go to https://watch.angelstudios.com/thechosen
“Master Your Money: A Step-by-Step Plan for Experiencing Financial Contentment.” Thursdays from 7:00, beginning October 28
Tom and Elaine Hoff will be leading a small group that will cover material that discusses the process of striving towards financial contentment. The group will be using Ron Blue’s book, “Master Your Money: A Step-by-Step Plan for Experiencing Financial Contentment,” in which the author applies a biblical perspective to personal finances. They will also be using Right Now Media videos from Crown Financial Ministries. This group will meet at Tom & Elaine’s home (10 Glen Court).
Update on Trunk or Treat 2021
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29th
We are so happy that we are able to offer a “modified” version of Trunk or Treat this year! 🎃 Because we want to have the safest experience for all attending, we will not be doing the “carnival games” in the gym this year. Instead all kids & parents will meet in Faith Chapel at 5:00pm for a “Halloween” story with Kevin Mathison, our Director of Youth.
From there we will dismiss the kids with their parents to the south parking lot to go “Trunk or Treating”. Please wear your costumes to Trunk or Treat! (no scary witches, goblins etc. that would frighten young children) Remember to bring your bucket or bag to collect candy and toys!
If you are setting up a car/truck to hand out candy/toys etc. please have your car set up by 5:00 pm. Please do not pass out any treats until after the gathering in Faith Chapel. We want all the children to begin going from car to car at the same time. If you are going to give out treats please arrive after 4:00 pm to set up! Trunk or Treat will end at 6:00 pm. We look forward to welcoming you to Trunk or Treat at St. John’s Lutheran Church & School.
- Arrive after 4:00pm to set up your car in the south parking lot
- Children & their parents should meet in Faith Chapel at 5:00pm. Wear your costumes
- If you are not setting up a vehicle, please park in the PS parking lot or on the street
- The kids will be dismissed from Faith Chapel to go “trunk or treating”
Thank you very much! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Janis King at

Children’s Ministry
UPDATE: Sadly, we do not have enough leaders to offer Children’s Church every week. Please consider serving in this very important ministry! We need you! Please contact Janis King.
CHILDREN’S CHURCH IS COMING BACK!
We are happy to announce that Children’s Church will be starting up again! We have a new curriculum that will be used on Sunday mornings called GOSPEL LIGHT. These classes are for Preschool-1st Graders and 2nd through 4th Grade.
The children will be dismissed during the worship service with the teachers right before the Bible readings . They will be in the classrooms for approximately 30 minutes and then their teachers will bring them back to their parents in the church. The preschool through first graders will meet in the Preschool classroom and the 2nd-4th graders will meet in the school library.
We are hoping that this will continue to be a positive experience for the young children in our congregation and for their parents as well.
If you are interested in being blessed as a teacher and would like to teach once a month please let me know asap! I would like to get this going on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Janis King.
