A Living Word for a New Year
So what’s the plan for 2014? Lose weight? Exercise more? Treat your family better? Pay off that debt?
This is the time of new beginnings, new plans, new resolve. And it seems like the most common resolutions have to do with our physical health, followed often by resolutions concerning our financial health or relational health.
I want to encourage you to listen to what the Lord may have in mind for you in the coming year. Is he calling you to resolve to grow spiritually? To worship more faithfully? To seek to follow his leading more closely? To pursue Christ-like living more diligently? To forgive more readily?
The key to any spiritual growth is opening ourselves to the source of that growth, the Holy Spirit. And the key to being led by the Spirit is being in the Word. If you don’t already do so, I encourage you to resolve to daily time in the Word. The point is not volume of Scripture covered, but allowing the Scripture to uncover God’s will for our lives. Sometimes a single verse is a powerful tool in the hands of God.
For the past couple of years, I have followed a Bible Reading plan called “The Moravian Daily Texts.” Every morning there is an email in my inbox with the texts for the next day, as well as other devotional thoughts. I highly recommend checking this out. You can go to Moravian.org to sign up for the daily emails as well.
But whether you follow this plan or another plan, my prayer for you is that in the coming year, the Word of God would bless and shape your heart and life, leading you to follow your Savior and radiate His love.
