1 Chronicles 11:4-47

What struck me this morning was verse 6. David became more powerful because the Lord was with him. But the main point of the entire passage for today is to provide a list of all the men that were surrounding and supporting David. His commander, Joab, and David’s 30 mighty men, including the 3 led by Abishai, did great and heroic deeds for David’s kingdom and for David personally.
So did David become more powerful because of the Lord or because of his mighty men? The answer of course is yes. The Lord blessed David by surrounding him with strong supporters who worked with him on the common goal of building and securing the kingdom.
Who are the “mighty men” in my life? Who are the people God has placed around you? Who are the ones who are around us that make us stronger and better? Who encourage us and help us? Who enable us to be the people of God we are called to be?
I am thankful for those people in my life. Most especially my wife and family, my colleagues on staff at St. John’s, and other close friends and fellow servants in ministry. God has truly blessed me through these people and has been at work through them to enable me to be a more faithful, effective servant.
Who is on your list of “mighty men”?
So my prayers today are for those people. I am praying in thanksgiving to God for them. I am also praying that God bless them in their walk with Him, give them joy in their following their savior, and equip them for their service to the Kingdom.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
