Three Strands (Ecclesiastes 3:9-5:20)

What caught my attention in today’s section in 4:9-12. Solomon writes of the value of friendship, how two are better than one. They are able to help each other up when they fall, able to keep each other warm, and able to defend themselves from attack. In this way they are able get a good return for their work. In verse 12, he comments that a cord of three strands is not easily broken. If two are good, three are better.
This passage is quite popular to read at weddings. It celebrates the friendship of the couple as they make their vows. But it also points to the three stranded cord which is a marriage with God as the third strand. A marriage woven with and through and by God will be strong indeed.
So I am praying today for marriages. I am praying for those that are brand new, and for those of many decades. I am praying that they may truly be cords of three strands, strengthened through their connection with Christ.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
