The Day of the Lord (Joel 2:15-3:21)
Is the “Day of the Lord” something to be dreaded or a day to look forward to with hope? In popular culture “judgment day” is something dreadful, referring mainly to destruction and death. But in Joel 2:28-32, the day of the Lord is a day of blessing, where all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Much of this book is a call to repentance. But repentance is not an end in itself. Repentance is turning back to the Lord who is eager to pour out His Spirit and His grace upon those who return to Him. The contrast is rather stark between those who through repentance and faith belong to the Lord, and those who oppose Him, represented by the nations who will face defeat on the day of the Lord.
This section led me into prayer for those I know in my life who are not walking with the Lord. Some have drifted away. Others have intentionally rejected the Lord, and embraced secularism. Regardless, I am praying for them today, that the Lord lead them to repentance. I pray that the “Day of the Lord” will be a day of rejoicing for them, and that in the end we will rejoice together.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
