“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
(Proverbs 18:24)
This week, we’re focusing especially on being thankful for community, for the people in our lives. Today I am giving thanks to God for my friends.
What a blessing it is to have good friends! And I truly feel blessed when I consider how my life has been enriched by the friends God has placed in my life.
Jesus valued the friends that he gathered around himself. He said about them “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you (John 15:15).” For Jesus, being a friend meant that he shared willingly with them and invited them to walk with Him on the journey.
Jesus’ friends were not family, but he experienced, as many have, that there are friends who stick closer than family, as Proverbs 18:24 expresses. When Jesus brothers and sisters had rejected Him, his disciples stayed with Him.
How has your life been enriched by your friends? How have you been a blessing to them? Thanks be to God for the blessing of friends!
What are you thankful for today?
