“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
(2 Corinthians 1:20)
This week, we’re focusing especially on reasons to be thankful in all circumstances. Today I am giving thanks that God’s promises are sure.
It’s easy to grow jaded and skeptical regarding promises. We’ve all seen promises that were not kept, and some that were never intended to be kept. Politicians make many promises that are left unfulfilled. Advertisers promises tremendous blessings through their products that are not realized.
God’s promises are different. Because they come from the God of the universe and are grounded in the cross and resurrection of Christ, the promises of God are entirely different.
It’s similar to what we say about Christian hope. The hope we have in Christ is not wishful thinking but rather certainty because it rests on what Christ has done.
In the same way, the promises of God are not mere aspirational intentions by God. Rather, because they come from God, they are reality. In fact, they define reality and should be treated as fact. God cannot lie. His promises cannot fail.
This is a great blessing in times of trouble and hardship. When I am facing loss and heartache and pain, I can find comfort in the promises of God which are certain and dependable even when everything else is falling apart.
Thanks be to God that His promises are sure!

We are thankful for many things. Staying in the Redwoods for a few days this week revisiting places we enjoyed with family for many years. Especially thankful that Midge can once again travel to enjoy God’s creations.
