The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
(Psalm 121:7-8)
This week, we’re focusing especially on being thankful for all the ways God provides for us. Today I am giving thanks to God for the gift of His protection.
We readily give thanks to God when we are spared injury or loss that seemed close at hand. A near accident on the highway, for instance. But the truth is that we are always under God’s protection. Perhaps we are spared each day from numerous calamities of which we are unaware.
But God’s promise of protection is not a guarantee of no harm or loss or pain in this life. Rather it rests on the assurance that if God is with us and for us, the losses of this life will not overwhelm us. The ultimate protection that God gives us is the protection of the resurrection. We are promised a share in the new creation, forever shielded from all harm and loss forever.
So I am thankful today for the protection of God that goes with me always, and also thankful for the eternal protection which I have in Him.
What are you thankful for today?
