Pray For Your Enemies (Isaiah 19:18-22:14)

This section is primarily concerned with judgment: judgment on several nations and finally on Judah. But what is most striking is the vision laid out in 19:18-25. Egypt and Assyria, two of the foremost enemies of the people of God, are described as having being the Lord’s people. Things that are part of the story of Israel are said to be true of them, most especially that the Lord will make Himself known to them.
This is a picture of what I referred to in the sermon this past Sunday, the fulfillment of the call of Abraham. All nations will be blessed through the family of Abraham – even those who are currently the enemies of the people of God.
Jesus calls on his disciples to pray for their enemies. Isn’t this ultimately what we are to pray for concerning those who are enemies of the people of God today? We are to pray for the fulfillment of the call and blessing of Abraham in their lives, and the realization of the vision laid out in Isaiah 19:18-25.
So that is my prayer today. I am praying for those who consider themselves enemies of the people of God, for ISIS and other radical anti-Christian groups. I am praying that they would come to be blessed through the people of God and so ultimately come to know the One who loves them and laid down His life for them.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
