Psalm 103:19-22
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul. [1]

The conclusion of this psalm is a call for the whole universe to praise the Lord who rules over all. The psalmist calls upon the residents of the heavenly realms to praise the Lord, then invites all the rest of the universe to join in as well. It’s interesting to note that the angels and the heavenly hosts are identified as those who “obey his word” and “do his will.” Heaven is the place where God’s will is realized in perfection.
I found myself connecting these words to the petition in the Lord’s prayer: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In heaven the Lord is recognized as ruler over all. In heaven, His word is obeyed and His will is carried out. When we pray this petition, we are praying for these things to be true on earth, and in particular, in our lives.
So that is my prayer today. I pray that this day I would obey the Lord’s word as do the angels in heaven. I pray that I might do his will, as do the heavenly hosts. And I pray that my life today would be an act of praise, for the Lord is ruler over all, and ruler over me.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
