Lord of Nations (Isaiah 22:15-23:18)

What is striking to me in this passage today is the Lord’s involvement in the politics of nations. He is truly Lord of nations and these words of Isaiah illustrate that. First He concerns Himself with the replacement of an official. Then His attention turns to the city of Tyre, prophesying judgment.
Our culture seeks to make a distinction between the sacred and the secular, and ne’er the twain shall meet. But with the Lord there is no secular. All is within His purview and under His leadership. His concern with His fallen creation is not just the spiritual welfare of individuals. He is concerned with the affairs of nations and leaders, whether they acknowledge Him or not. This is abundantly clear in the prophetic writings of the Old Testament.
Should we expect anything different today? The Lord’s area of concern is much broader than just His church and those who confess Him. He is truly Lord of nations, at work in the world in ways we cannot see or comprehend.
So we rightly pray to Him for the nations of the earth, for their leaders, and for the realization of His will throughout the world, and in the decisions of rulers and officials. And that is my prayer prompted by this passage today. I am praying for our own nation and its leaders, as well as other nations, especially those that seem to be in turmoil and distress. I am praying for the Lord’s will and justice to be done.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
