This Week’s Memory Verse
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1
As We Gather
Our worship series during Epiphany will focus on the identity of Jesus as revealed in the first chapter of the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel begins with these words: “The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.” Who is this Jesus? What does that mean for us today? We will dig into Mark 1, seeking in God’s Word His call to us today.
On Sunday, we focus on the words of the Father to Jesus at His Baptism. The Father declares Jesus to be His beloved Son. This defines the identity of Jesus as He begins His ministry. The Father similarly declares His love for us in our Baptism. What does that mean for our lives?
Today we are also observing “The Baptism of Our Lord Sunday.” On this Sunday we recall the names of those who were baptized among us during the preceding year. We pray that the remembrance of these Baptisms plus our own Baptism will nourish and nurture our faith for the living of the Christ-life.
We will also be welcoming new members to our St. John’s family. We rejoice as we welcome them to St. John’s, praying that they will be a blessing and will be blessed as part of our community.
First Reading Genesis 1:1-5
Second Reading Romans 6:1-11

Gift Cards… Needing ideas on how to budget your spending in 2020? Many people use gift cards (Scrip) to help achieve their goals! Whether you budget weekly or monthly, gift cards could be the answer. Pick up your grocery cards (Safeway, Lucky, Raley’s/Nob Hill, Target or WalMart) gas cards (Arco, Chevron, Shell) Starbucks, Visa etc. and use these instead of cash. Stop by the school office during regular school hours, and purchase your gift cards with the money you have budgeted for these expenses. This may help prevent impulse buying. A listing of cards we have available are attached. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!!

Social Media at St. John’s… St. John’s and its ministries stay in contact with the community in many ways, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and our own websites. It takes a lot of effort to keep the websites up to date and to keep the communication current and flowing on social media. The social media team is all volunteer and we could use a few more tech-savvy people to help us out. If you are a fan of social media and would like to help us communicate to our members, parents, students, and community, we could use your help. Contact us by email: sjlcsocialmedia@gmail.com
Also, if you have something you’d like to see us talk about or promote on social media, please use the same contact info.

You can sign in either in the church or school office.
