Esther 4-5

What is striking in this section are Mordecai’s words to Esther that perhaps she has come to her royal position for just this time. Once again, God is referred to obliquely instead of directly, but the sense is plain. Mordecai is suggesting that God has been at work to bring her to this position of influence so that she could act now on behalf of what is just and right. Seeing herself in this light prompts Esther to action.
But Mordecai’s words are not just for Esther. This is true for all of us. We are all ambassadors of Christ’s love. All who bear the name of Christ are not just recipients of God’s mission; we are its agents. We are placed where we are in life because God intends for us to be His hands and feet and voice in the lives of those around us. It may not seem as dramatic as preventing genocide, but the truth is that we have no idea of the far-reaching impact of the love, kindness, faithfulness, and justice we are to put into practice each day.
So my prayer today is that I faithfully carry out the purpose for which God has placed me where I am. I pray that His Spirit may strengthen me to be His hands and feet and voice to bring blessing to those among whom He has placed me this day.
