Psalm 104:10-18
10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.
13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:
15 wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax. [1]
_______________
What stood out to me in these verses is God’s gracious provision for all of creation. God is not just concerned for his people to be provided and cared for. He is at work providing and caring for the birds and the donkeys, the cattle and the wild goats. He is described as actively watering the animals and providing for the production of their food. Humans are presented as just part of God’s grand work of sustaining all of creation and providing for its continued living and thriving.
How easy it is to take for granted this world we inhabit, and the intricate beauty and purpose of all creation. It is all loved by God, and it all is intended to reflect His will. When God pronounced His verdict that all of creation was “very good,” humans were only part of it, not all of it. And when He completes His grand mission to bring resurrection, it will be for all creation as well.
So my prayer today flows out of contemplation of the beauty and vastness of God’s creation. I pray that God work in my the faith to see it as He sees it, and to treasure it as the work of His hands, entrusted to me and the rest of humanity to care for and steward. I pray for the work of those who seek to care for creation, especially those who are doing so as an act of worship for their Creator.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
