This Week’s Memory Verse
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ~Acts 1:8
As We Gather
On Sunday, the day of Pentecost, we are reminded that we have been called and enlightened and sanctified by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same Jesus sends us out with the power of His Spirit to bring peace and forgiveness to the world.
Sunday is also Stephen Ministry Sunday, as we recognize this new ministry here at St. John’s. Stephen Ministry is based on the thought that all Christians are ministers. The responsibility for passing on God’s love is for all Christians, not just for a chosen few. God has given us all gifts for ministry and called us to put those gifts to use. Stephen Ministry is a way people with special gifts for caring ministry can use those gifts to bring Christ’s love to people in need.

Psalm Psalm 139:1-12
Second Reading 2 Cor. 5:17-21

- Who Benefits from Stephen Ministry?…Everybody benefits from Stephen Ministry. Those receiving care from Stephen Ministers benefit because they receive prayer and support throughout the crisis they face. Stephen Ministers benefit through the spiritual growth they experience from being involved in meaningful ministry. Our congregation benefits because caring ministry is expanded. Most of all you benefit from the knowledge that special care is available to you should you need it. In addition, you will soon have a place where you can refer a friend, neighbor, coworker, relative, or anyone else you know who is going through a difficult time so that they can receive special care when they need it most. Training for Stephen Ministers will begin August 23.
- Congregational Meeting… We will be having a congregational meeting on June 3 after the 10:15 AM service (approximately 11:30 AM). The agenda will include the election of board members, adoption of the Ministry Plan and Budget for 2018-2019, as well as revisions to the By-Laws.
All documents pertaining to the June 3 Congregational Meeting are on the table in the church entryway (narthex). They are also available on the church website. Go to “Resources”, and then “Ministry Documents.”
