Prayerfully Consider Being a Stephen Minister…Stephen Ministers bring distinctively Christian care to those in need. They use both words and deeds to express Christ’s care for others – listening and comforting, calling on the training they have received, and employing the tools of faith. If this job description fits your personal goals for ministry, consider becoming a Stephen Minister. The next training session begins September 19. Learn more about Stephen Ministry and what Stephen Ministers do at the Stephen Ministry Information Meeting on Sunday, August 18 at 6:30 PM in Room 10. Unable to attend, contact Pastor Mark for information – pastormark@stjohnslutheran.net.
There are three parts to the Red Letter Challenge series
- Sunday Worship (September 22 – October 27)
- Red Letter Challenge Devotion Book
- Red Letter Challenge Growth Group
Red Letter Challenge Books
This small group worship series is based on the Discipleship Devotion book “The Red Letter Challenge” by Pastor Zach Zehnder. This book contains the challenges for each day as we go through this growth series together. We will have copies available for you before the end of August. Our goal is have one of these books in the hands of all who worship at St. John’s. Our cost for each book is $15, but we will be make them available to anyone. We are only asking a suggested donation of $5. We truly want each person to have one of these books. Watch for more information regarding when the books will be available.
Red Letter Challenge Growth Groups
We are also inviting all to become part of a growth group (small group) for this series, similar to what we did last fall for the “I Am” series. This will provide an opportunity to grow in fellowship, grow in discipleship, as well as providing encouragement as we work through the challenges. Watch for more information on the formation of groups in the coming weeks.
Needed: H.O.S.T.S.
We are looking for people to serve as a H.O.S.T. for these groups. This is a great way to start a growth group without having to worry about being a good enough teacher or Bible Scholar. We are looking for people who are hospitable to host groups in their homes.
What is a H.O.S.T.?
- Have a Heart for people
- Open your home (or other place to meet), providing a welcoming environment
- Serve them something to drink
- Turn on the DVD/Video player and facilitate discussion with provided questions based on the video teachings
Training will be provided at an upcoming training event.

We invite you to come along on Aaron’s outings – they happen almost every day! Just call Christy at the church office to see what Aaron is doing during the time you are interested in helping.
Secondly, as we prepare for the arrival of our second Comfort Dog, we invite you to consider being involved as caregivers, handlers, or social media coordinators. If you are interested in these three ministry positions for our second Comfort Dog, please call the Kramers in the church office.

Please consider if God is nudging you to serve in this way and helping to grow our youngest disciples! We need at least 3 new people in order for us to continue to offer Children’s Church.
SUMMER CHILDREN’S CHURCH WILL BE A COMBINED CLASS WITH ALL AGES TOGETHER! WE HAD TO DO THIS BECAUSE WE HAVE FEWER TEACHERS ABLE TO LEAD DURING THE SUMMER THIS YEAR! THEY WILL ALL MEET IN THE PRESCHOOL BUILDING!
