This Week’s Memory Verse
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. ~1 Corinthians 3:6-7
As We Gather
Paul warns his readers (and us!) about pursuing the “wisdom of the age.” Instead, he says, we should become “fools” in the eyes of the world, for this is the path of true wisdom, the wisdom of God. For the Corinthians, wisdom was seen in philosophical knowledge coupled with oratorical and rhetorical skill. To be considered wise was to be considered a success, to have arrived at the highest esteem of the culture. What is the wisdom of our age? What does our age consider “success”? Are we aware of how we may be pursuing that “wisdom” instead of the wisdom of God? What does the Word say to us about “success” in the eyes of God?

Stephen Ministry – Ready? Set? Minister!…Riding a bike. Using a new computer program. Ironing a shirt. Training is important whenever anyone learns a new skill. Training is important in Stephen Ministry too. Before Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers begin their work, they go through a lot of training. When they start their official ministry, they are ready. Training for our first Stephen Ministers begins in August. For more information about Stephen Ministry contact Pam Barker, Penni Cremen, or Pastor Mark.
