As We Gather
Today’s Gospel brings us from the joy of Christmas to a horrific tragedy conceived in the twisted mind of King Herod. Instead of singing for joy at the birth of the Savior, Herod struck out in violent fear, committing an atrocious evil upon innocent victims. We are reminded that Jesus came into a fallen world where evil is a present reality. But this is why He came. He came to bring redemption to a fallen humanity, each of our lives tainted by evil as well. Deliver us from evil, Lord Jesus.

Called to Glory…Our sister in Christ, Georganne Schneider was called to be with the Lord on November 26. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s on Saturday, December 28 at 1:00 PM. Please pray for comfort and peace for her family and all who mourn.
Your Input Invited: Ministry Plan 2020-21. We are beginning the process of developing our ministry plan for 2020-2021 and beyond. We would like your input and involvement as we seek the Lord’s guidance regarding the ministry and mission we share. Gift Cards… Needing ideas on how to budget your spending in 2020? Many people use gift cards (Scrip) to help achieve their goals! Whether you budget weekly or monthly, gift cards could be the answer. Pick up your grocery cards (Safeway, Lucky, Raley’s/Nob Hill, Target or WalMart) gas cards (Arco, Chevron, Shell) Starbucks, Visa etc. and use these instead of cash. Stop by the school office during regular school hours, and purchase your gift cards with the money you have budgeted for these expenses. This may help prevent impulse buying. Social Media at St. John’s… St. John’s and its ministries stay in contact with the community in many ways, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and our own websites. It takes a lot of effort to keep the websites up to date and to keep the communication current and flowing on social media. The social media team is all volunteer and we could use a few more tech-savvy people to help us out. School Campus Security – As part of our Campus Security Plan, we have implemented a security sign-in procedure during the school day. If you are here at St. John’s during the school day (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday), you need to sign-in and be issued a Visitor or Volunteer ID badge to wear while on campus. You can sign in either in the church or school office.

That’s a wrap on Surge & Crew for 2019! It was a fantastic year of fun, faith growth, and fellowship. Last week was a super awesome way to go into the break! We were able to serve our community this Christmas with donated gifts from our Surge & Crew Christmas parties. Thank you to everyone who participated in that! We will be back with more events in the New Year.

Recycle your Household Batteries at SJL: St. John’s Lutheran is working with Napa Recycling on collecting and disposing of any household batteries you may have; AAA, AA, C, D & 9 volt batteries. We will not accept automotive or drill batteries, only standard household batteries. Containers are available in the school office, church office, and Room 10.
