This Week’s Memory Verse
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ~Galatians 3:28
As We Gather
The Bible was written thousands of years ago in a very different culture. Is it still relevant today? What benefit is there in reading it? How does something written in a different time and place have meaning in a person’s life now? Today we explore the question, “Why should I read the Bible?”
First Reading Deuteronomy 8:1-3
Psalm Psalm 119:9-16
Second Reading 2 Timothy 3:12-17
Gospel Matthew 7:24-28
Children’s Church: No Children’s Church this weekend. Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Foundations: Basic Christianity… This class will be on Wednesday evening, September 11th from 7:00 – 8:30 in Room 8. Foundations is a study of the central teachings of the faith in order to deepen our understanding and living of the faith. This course also covers the core teachings for those interested in becoming members of St. John’s. If you have questions about Foundations or would like to sign up, please contact Pastor Mike or the church office.
Coffee Hour… Coffee hour…Have you missed the coffee hour between services? Do you have the gift of hospitality or service? We would like to offer it again but we need at least 8 teams to continue this ministry which is welcoming to visitors and a time of fellowship for members. Please prayerfully consider serving once every two months so this ministry may continue. God Bless you to be a blessing to others. Contact Susan Clark for more information at email saclarknd@gmail.com or 253-2477.
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
Attention Ladies! Mark your calendars! Women’s Thursday afternoon Bible Study will resume on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary. We will be studying Micah with a study guide from Love God Greatly Ministries. Looking forward to seeing you all! Contact Womensminsitry@stjohnslutheran.net
GIVE THE GIFT OF A BIBLE TO A PRESCHOOL CHILD… If you attended church as a child you may have received your first Bible from your church family. How old were you? Do you still have that Bible? Because St. John’s Lutheran Preschool is a ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church, we would like to foster a relationship between congregational members and preschool families. We have 65 children in the Preschool this year. If you would like to be a blessing to one, two or more children and their families this year, we would like to connect you to the child and their parents. It is our hope that every child will receive a Bible and connect with one or our church families. We will have a table set up on the patio on Sunday, September 15th after the early and late services.
You can find a flyer with more information in the church narthex, the church office, the school office, or the preschool office. For more info contact Janis King.
School Campus Security – As part of our Campus Security Plan, we have implemented a security sign-in procedure during the school day. If you are here at St. John’s during the school day (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday), you need to sign-in and be issued a Visitor or Volunteer ID badge to wear while on campus. You can sign in either in the church or school office.
Wednesday Morning Bible Class…This class, led by Pastor Mark, will begin again on Wednesday, September 4th. This year we will continue studying the book of 1st Samuel, picking up at chapter 18. This is a detailed study as we work our way through the rest of this book verse by verse. All who are available on Wednesday mornings are welcome to join us. Class meets each Wednesday morning in Room 10 from 10:30 – 11:30.
