1 Chronicles 12 (Warriors join David)

Today’s passage continues the main point from yesterday’s verses. Other men besides the “Mighty Men” came to join David over the course of his reign. Some joined him in Ziklag when he was still on the run from Saul. Others joined him at Hebron, as the kingdom passed to David.
Yesterday, I pointed out that the list of the Mighty Men led me to pray for those people that God has placed around me in my life, the “mighty men” (and women) who support, encourage and help me. As I read through the lists in 1 Chronicles 12, I was noticing the positive comments that author makes about some of these warriors.
What are the characteristics which were valuable to David? Here is what I noticed:
- They helped David (12:1, 21)
- They were brave (12:8, 21)
- They were ready (12:8)
- They were led by the Spirit (12:18)
- They understood the times (12:32)
- They were determined to support David (12:38)
So today, similar to yesterday, I’m praying for those who are around me, the “warriors” God has placed in my life. But I am praying this list for them. I’m praying that they may be helpful, brave and ready for \ whatever challenges and opportunities we may face together. I’m praying that they be led by the Spirit, and that they understand the times we’re living in, so they will know what to do. And I’m praying for their support, as together we work for the kingdom of God.
What is the Word leading you to pray about today?
