This Week’s Memory Verse
For God is the King of all the earth; sing to Him a psalm of praise. ~Psalm 47:7
As We Gather
The Psalms are the most enduring expressions of the prayers, petitions and praise of the people of God, some having been in use for over 3000 years. But the psalms are not just a testimony of the faith of the saints of the past; they are given to us to shape and give voice to our faith today.
Psalm 72 is a prayer for the king. But there are two levels of meaning. On the one hand it is a prayer that the king would rule with justice. But on the other hand it points ahead to the perfect King, who will reign on David’s throne forever with perfect justice. But what is justice? What does it mean in God’s sight for the king to be just? What does it mean for us to live lives of justice?
